Avian influenza virus is an infectious viral disease of domestic and wild birds that is characterized by a full range of symptoms, from mild respiratory signs to severe decreases in egg production and very high mortality. The causal Type A influenza viruses belong to the Orthomyxoviradae family. The rapid and often "quiet" spread of AIV makes comprehensive surveillance of commercial poultry flocks an essential activity in controlling the spread of this disease. Comprehensive surveillance includes early detection of the flu antigen within three to five days after exposure using Synbiotics’ Avian Influenza Type A Antigen Test Kit and detection of antibodies to AIV using the company’s ProFLOK® AIV Plus ELISA Kit.
